Czech, Lucero Combine for Road Shutout

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – NC State's pair of freshman pitchers, Estelle Czech and Brooklyn Lucero, combined for the Wolfpack's fifth shutout this season in a 5-0 victory against Virginia, Monday afternoon. NC State now moves
Czech (1-1) earned her first collegiate win after an extremely efficient five innings pitched. Czech did not allow a run with one hit and one walk and retired the first eight batters she faced. She has now pitched 12.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run. Lucero went the final 2.0 innings with two walks and one hit.
Angie Rizzi started in the leadoff spot for the first time in her NC State career and had an outstanding performance, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, a triple and a walk.
The Wolfpack manufactured a run early after Rizzi was hit by pitch to lead off the game. Rizzi promptly recorded her 13th stolen base of the season, before advancing to third on a throwing error by the Cavaliers' catcher. Logan Morris registered a sac fly, brining in the run for the 1-0 lead.
NC State's scoring efforts continued as April Visser drew a one-out walk, before Rizzi notched her second triple of the weekend into deep right field, for a 2-0 lead. Morris registered her sixth home run and 24th RBI of the season. The Wolfpack scored its final run of the day thanks to a bases loaded walk by Sam Sack.

- NC State moves to 44-4 under head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift when scoring first and is 9-2 this season when doing so.
- Sam Russ earned her 85th career stolen base. Russ is now one away from tying the school career record, and two from setting it.
- Madeline Curtis started her first game of the season as the designated player.
