Sack, Farricker Homer in Series Opener

SOUTH BEND, IND. – Both Sam Sack and Randi Farricker hit home runs in Friday's series opener against Notre Dame. NC State (14-9, 10-9) fell short against the Irish, 6-5, after trailing by as much as three runs.
Saturday's doubleheader has been adjusted to a 12 p.m. start time on ACCNX.
Farricker added to her home run total, entering Friday tied for the most in the Atlantic Coast Conference. She has now hit eight through 25 games. Sack's home run was her fourth of the season, making her the fifth Wolfpack player to have four or more in 2021.
Estelle Czech started the game in the circle, pitching 1.0 inning where she allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. Sydney Nester entered in relief pitching 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NC State got on board first with a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Notre Dame tied it up in the bottom half of the frame. The Irish took a 2-1 lead following a leadoff triple and then an NC State error. Sack's solo home run to lead off the fourth inning tied the game at 2.
Notre Dame answered right back in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 lead, with three singles and a sac bunt. NC State continued the back-and-forth scoring, cutting back into the Irish's lead with an RBI single by Logan Morris in the fifth.
Notre Dame's final two runs came on a home run by pitcher, Payton Tidd. The Wolfpack came back into striking distance in the sixth inning with a two-run shot of their own.
