@PackWrestle Wins Eight of Nine First Round Matches at NCAAs

NC State tied for fourth in team race before first night session
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The NC State Wrestling team won eight of its nine first round matches at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Among the eight individual wins, four went for bonus points – a pair of tech falls and a pair of major decisions.
After the opening session, NC State sits tied for fourth in the team race.

FIRST ROUND RECAP
The Pack's day got started with a bonus point win, as Camacho scored a 21-9 major decision over American's Curry at 125 pounds. Curry jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, but Camacho scored the bout's final seven takedowns and add a four-point near fall in the second.
At 133 pounds, Trombley used a takedown just 15 seconds into his match to score a 3-2 win over Air Force's Van Vleet.
Tariq Wilson also got a bonus point victory in the first round, getting a 17-0 technical fall win over Wyoming's Zollmann. Wilson started with a takedown and four-point near fall in the first, then sealed up the win in the second with another takedown and a pair of four-point near falls.
Hayden Hidlay closed the first session with the Pack's third bonus point win over the first four weight classes. Hidlay scored all six takedowns in the bout – two in each period – and racked up 2:27 of RT for the 14-5 major decision.
In the opening bout of Session 1B, Thomas Bullard got revenge from a 4-0 dual loss earlier this season, and scored a 3-2 win over SoCon Wrestler of the Year Formato of App State, 3-2. The lone takedown of the bout by Bullard came in the bout's first minute.
Daniel Bullard used a takedown in both the first and second period and scored a 4-0 decision over Air Force's Surratt.
Trent Hidlay also went for bonus points, also a technical fall win. Hidlay used a pair of takedowns and a four-point near fall in the first period to open up his 17-2 tech fall (with 4:56 of RT) over Oregon State's Reyes.
The Pack's lone loss of the opening round came at 197 pounds. #12 seed Nick Reenan nearly had the upset over #5 Warner of Iowa, but fell in extra time 9-7. Reenan hit a headlock for six points in the first, but gave up a takedown and stall call late that forced OT.
Deonte Wilson capped off the session with a 4-1 win over The Citadel's McAleavey. Tied 1-1 in the third, Wilson got a third period takedown and added 1:21 of RT for the win.
