NEW ORLEANS, LA. - Senior Hannah Steelman and head women's cross country coach Laurie Henes have each earned regional annual honors, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.
Steelman was named Southeast Region Women's Athlete of the Year after a successful cross country season. The Orono, Maine native posted a performance at the first meet of the season, the Virginia Tech Invitational, that was faster than the individual title-winning time at the 2019 ACC Championship held on the same course.
The senior posted a third-place finish at the 2020 ACC Championship and capped off the cross country season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Her finish at NCAAs was good to earn All-America laurels.
Henes garners Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors for the fifth consecutive year after guiding the Wolfpack to a second-place finish at the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championship.
The team placement was NC State's highest since the 2001 season when it also placed second. The squad additionally had three All-Americans in Steelman, Kelsey Chmiel and Katelyn Tuohy for the first time since 2001.
