RALEIGH – Atlantic Coast Conference competition is here, and the No. 10 NC State women's tennis team (5-1) will step into league action on Saturday afternoon as it makes the short trip to take on Wake Forest (4-3). First serve from the Wake Forest Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State put together a perfect weekend of action to close out non-conference play as it defeated Old Dominion and No. 21 Tennessee, both by 6-1 scores. With the victory over the Vols last Saturday, the Pack improved to a perfect 3-0 against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS:
The Wolfpack moved back into the national top 10 in Wednesday's release of the Oracle ITA Division I Team Rankings, checking in right at No. 10. The squad kept up its streak as it has now been featured in the national top 15 every week since Feb. 26, 2019.
New individual rankings have not been released. Prior to the start of the season, the Pack had four players featured in the singles and doubles rankings. NC State boasts two top-20 doubles pairs - Anna Rogers/Alana Smith (No. 2) and Adriana Reami/Jaeda Daniel (No. 16) - and three top-40 singles players - Smith (No. 23), Rogers (No. 35) and Reami (No. 38).
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Fifth-year senior Anna Rogers was named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday following an unbeaten weekend in singles and doubles. It marked the third time in her career that she has garnered the award. She is now 10-0 in singles play, with five of those 10 victories coming over nationally-ranked opponents.
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST:
The Demon Deacons just fell out of the top 25 of the national rankings for the first time this season. The team was ranked as high as No. 16 this season. Wake Forest is 4-3 on the season and has won back-to-back matches after going on a three-game skid.
Two members of the Demon Deacon squad are ranked in singles - Carolyn Campana (No. 21) and Eliza Omirou (No. 98).
UP NEXT:
NC State continues its three-game road stint with a trip to the Sunshine State next weekend. The Pack will take on sixth-ranked Florida State Friday, Feb. 26 and then journey to Miami for a Sunday, Feb. 28 matchup.
