CARY, N.C. – NC State baseball's Jose Torres has earned a spot on the 2021 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.
USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award recognizes the nation's top amateur baseball player, which will be presented in July. The preseason watch list features 55 players, as 16 different collegiate athletic conferences are represented on the list.
This is the fourth time in the last five years that NC State has had at least one player represented on the preseason watch list.
Torres, who earned Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball in 2020, has recently been tabbed a preseason All-American by DI Baseball. He has also been identified as one of the top 100 prospects for the 2021 MLB Draft by MLB Pipeline.
In the shortened 2020 season, Torres started all 17 games last year at shortstop and was the only freshman on the team to start every game. He batted. 333 with 20 hits and 13 runs, and finished top four among the team in all three categories.
