Three #PackPros To Compete In MLB Postseason

NC State baseball alumni Andrew Knizner, Carlos Rodón and Trea Turner will all compete in the Major League Baseball (MLB) playoffs, marking the first time in program history that three #PackPros will compete with their respective teams in the postseason.

Additionally, former player Aaron Bates is a hitting coach with the Dodgers, giving the #Pack9 a combined four members representing the program in the postseason.

Knizner and the St. Louis Cardinals will face off against Turner and the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, October 6 at 8:10 p.m. ET on TBS in a single-elimination wild card game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The winner of that game will play the San Francisco Giants in the best-of-five National League Division Series with the first game beginning Friday, October 8 at 9:37 p.m. ET on TBS.

Meanwhile, Rodón and the Chicago White Sox will square off against the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series, with game one beginning Thursday, October 7 at 4:07 p.m. ET at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. The game will be broadcast on the MLB Network/FS1.

Turner finished the regular season as the league's batting champion with a .328 clip and led the MLB in hits with 195. He additionally led the National League with 31 stolen bases and 315 total bases.

Rodón has turned in his best season to date in the big leagues during 2021, as he owns a 13-5 record and 2.37 earned-run average with 185 strikeouts in 132.2 innings pitched. The southpaw had faced adversity in previous years as he has battled through injuries, but this year has become a key part of the White Sox rotation.

Turner and Rodón were selected to this year's All-Star Game, marking the first time NC State has ever had two players earn a spot in the same season.
