Pack Outlasted By #14 Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – NC State could not hold on and dropped a 3-1 (25-20, 14-25, 17-25, 16-25) decision to No. 14 Georgia Tech on Sunday evening in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action inside of O'Keefe Gymnasium.
The Pack (13-10, 7-5 ACC) took the first set but the Yellow Jackets' (19-3, 10-2 ACC) offense caught a smooth rhythm in the second set and never looked back.
Junior Kristen McDaniel recorded her fourth double double in as many games with 21 assists and a team-best 10 digs with two service aces. Graduate student Melissa Evans led the offensive charge with 15 kills while playing solid defense as she recorded a career-high tying and game-high seven blocks.
Junior Hannah Wander had a great outing serving as she recorded two aces, tied career high, in six attempts. Additionally, sophomore Riley Shaak posted two service aces.
Set One (NC State 25, Georgia Tech 20)
The Pack stayed close with the Yellow Jackets early before popping off a 7-2 run to take a 12-7 lead forcing Georgia Tech to use a timeout. NC State almost saw their lead diminish but an error and an ace from Shaak created a 20-15 lead that it would not relinquish. The Wolfpack held the high-powered Yellow Jackets to a .105 hitting percentage in the set.
Set Two (NC State 14, Georgia Tech 25)
Georgia Tech came with different energy in the second set as it took a 1-0 lead and never looked back. The Pack stayed close early but a couple of errors and Georgia Tech kills allowed the Yellow Jackets to create a gap too big to recover from.
Set Three (NC State 17, Georgia Tech 25)
The Yellow Jackets offense came to play once again in the third set as the team hit .423 with 13 kills to take a 2-1 lead over NC State. The Pack battled hard in the set, recording 10 kills but had eight attacking errors that gave Georgia Tech enough momentum to gain the lead.
Set Four (NC State 16, Georgia Tech 25)
The final set was a battle early as there were three ties and two lead changes by the fourth point. Tied at 4-all, Georgia Tech reeled off 3-0 run that got the fans on their feet, diminishing any momentum NC State had. NC State tried to battle back but could not regain much momentum and fell in four sets to the Yellow Jackets.
