RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (8-7-2, 4-5-0 ACC) will close out its regular season slate Thursday night when it travels to Pittsburgh (10-7-0, 3-5-0 ACC). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa., and the match will be broadcast on the ACCNX.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State closed out its regular season home slate on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Syracuse at Dail Soccer Stadium. It was the Wolfpack's fifth shutout of the season, as it has now won four of its last five matches.
Lulu Guttenberger converted a penalty kick late in the first half, while Emika Kawagishi and Jameese Joseph combined for a pair of second half goals.
Goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta tallied her fifth shutout in goal in her first fall season with the Pack, as she made six saves in the contest. This was the third consecutive match she has recorded six or more saves.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the ninth overall meeting between NC State and Pitt, as the Wolfpack leads the all-time series, 5-3.
The teams last met on October 19, 2019, in Pittsburgh, and the Panthers earned a 2-1 victory.
NC State has won three of the last four matchups between the squads.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Pitt is coming off a 2-1 loss to Wake Forest on Sunday in its last time out after capturing 4-2 and 3-0 wins against Syracuse and Boston College, respectively.
Amanda West is Pitt's leader in scoring with nine goals and 21 points in just 10 matches played, while goalkeeper Katherine Robinson ranks top six among the league in four different categories.
POSTSEASON LOOK AHEAD
This year's ACC Championship has been reduced to a six-team tournament, but because of the league's dominance among the nation, eight to 10 teams typically earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The ACC Championship begins October 31, while the NCAA Tournament Selection Show will be November 8 at 4:30 p.m., with the first round being held November 12-14.
NC State's RPI is currently 27th with a pair of top five ACC wins, and its strength of schedule has been rated the third toughest in the NCAA.
