RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (8-7-2, 4-5-0 ACC) closed out its regular season home slate on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Syracuse (4-11-1, 0-9-0 ACC) at Dail Soccer Stadium.
This was the Wolfpack's fifth shutout of the season, as it has now won four of its last five matches.
Lulu Guttenberger converted a penalty kick for her third goal of the season in the 37th minute to put NC State ahead, 1-0, going into the locker room.
Emika Kawagishi doubled the Pack's lead in the 49th minute with her second career goal. Jameese Joseph was credited with her second assist of the season when she passed to Kawagishi to the top of the box, and the shot was chipped over the Syracuse goalie and into the top right corner of the net.
Joseph tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Denae Antoine played her a beautiful through ball from the midfield, and Joseph made a run to beat out a pair of Syracuse defenders and her strike bounced right of the keeper and into the lower right corner.
Goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta tallied her fifth shutout in goal in her first fall season with the Pack, as she made six saves in the contest. This is the third consecutive match she has recorded six or more saves.
NC State will play its last match of the regular season Thursday, October 28 when it travels to Pittsburgh for a 7 p.m. matchup at Ambrose Urbanic Field on the ACCNX.
