Women’s Soccer Travels To Wake Forest Thursday

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (7-6-2, 3-4-0 ACC) will look for its fourth consecutive conference win on Thursday evening when it makes the trip to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Wake Forest (12-3-0, 4-3-0 ACC) in a 7 p.m. matchup at Spry Stadium on the ACCNX.
Both squads are currently receiving votes for the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State captured its third consecutive conference win on Saturday night in front of 1,234 fans at Dail Soccer Stadium when it shut out then-No. 3 North Carolina.
Jameese Joseph's goal in the 26th minute, her team-leading seventh of the season and third in as many matches, proved to be the game-winner, while Maria Echezarreta was phenomenal in goal with a career-high eight saves to collect her fourth shutout of the season.
It was the first time in program history that NC State has beaten two top five programs in the same season, as it defeated No. 4 Duke, 2-1, in double overtime on October 7. It is also the first time in history that the Wolfpack has earned wins over the Blue Devils and Tar Heels in the same year.
JOSEPH, ECHEZARRETA EARN WEEKLY HONORS
Following NC State's emphatic 1-0 shutout victory over then No. 3 North Carolina last weekend, Echezarreta and Joseph earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference and TopDrawerSoccer on Tuesday. Joseph was named this week's ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Echezarreta earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Week honors.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the 26th meeting between the Pack and Demon Deacons, as Wake Forest leads the all-time series, 17-6-2.
The last time the teams met was on March 20, 2021, in Raleigh, and Wake won, 1-0. The last time the squads met in Winston-Salem was on Sept. 29, 2019, and they battled to a 1-1 (2OT) draw.
WOLFPACK/DEMON DEACON CONNECTION
Prior to Tim Santoro taking over as head coach at NC State, he was a member of the coaching staff at Wake Forest under Tony da Luz from 2008-12. He served as the associate head coach in his final two seasons with the Demon Deacons.

In the latest NCAA RPI, the Pack checks in at No. 24, making a 14-spot jump from last week. NC State also currently has the hardest strength of schedule according to the NCAA as it has played eight matches against top 20 teams, including five against top 10 opponents.
ABOUT THE DEMON DEACONS
Wake is coming off a 2-0 loss to Duke in its last time out after a pair of wins over Miami and Virginia Tech prior to. The Demon Deacons own an 8-2-0 record at home this season and are currently in a tie for fifth place among the ACC standings.
