Softball Hosts Norfolk State for Midweek Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – Following an ACC-opening sweep against Notre Dame, NC State concludes its lengthy home stand Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Norfolk State. The Wolfpack will begin the day with a 12 p.m. first pitch against the Spartans followed by a 2:30 game. Tuesday will mark the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State (17-6, 3-0 ACC) swept Notre Dame over the weekend to open ACC play with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2015. The sweep marked the second-straight conference sweep for the Wolfpack, dating back to the end of the 2019 regular season.
Sydney Nester had a strong weekend in the circle, tossing two complete games for a 2-0 record with a total of 13 strikeouts and allowing just three runs (two earned). The sophomore now boasts a 10-4 record on the season, becoming just the second pitcher in the ACC to eclipse 10 or more wins. Nester ranks 13th in the nation in total wins and is 31st in the NCAA with a total of 89 strikeouts the season.
The Wolfpack's offense continues to be red hot with a .312 team batting average and .539 slugging percentage. The team slugging percentage ranks 13th in the nation thanks to the Wolfpack's 1.57 home runs per game, which ranks sixth.
Angie Rizzi led NC State in the opening weekend of conference play with a .429 batting average and a 1.286 slugging percentage. Rizzi hit a pair of first-inning home runs over the weekend and totaled five RBIs between the three games.
SCOUTING NORFOLK STATE
Norfolk State (6-12) enters the weekend following a 1-4 performance at the Pirate Invitational. The Spartans concluded the weekend with their lone win, 1-0, against Drexel. Norfolk State is led in the circle by Alexis Robinson who boasts a 1.87 earned run average, which also leads the MEAC conference. At the plate, Jazzmaine Hammond has a team-best .357 batting average with 15 RBIs and three home runs.
