WICHITA, Kan. – Junior catcher Patrick Bailey of No. 11 NC State baseball has been featured on the Buster Posey Award Watch List for the second consecutive season, as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission this week.
The award is given annually to the top catcher in Division I baseball. Last year, Bailey was one of 14 semifinalists for the award, and is one of 60 who were nominated by their coaches to this year's list.
After a solid sophomore season that earned him ABCA All-Region, First Team All-ACC and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-America honors, he was recently named a consensus preseason All-American and has earned spots on the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award and Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch Lists.
So far this season, Bailey is batting .327 with 19 hits and a team-leading six home runs, including three grand slams. He additionally paces the team with a .477 on-base percentage and ranks second with a .755 slugging percentage. He's started every game behind the plate (15) and owns a .993 fielding percentage.
The list of semifinalists will be announced May 19, and then will be narrowed down to three finalists June 3. The winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 25 in Wichita.
