
#Pack9 Earns Comeback Win Over Gophers, Crowned Tournament Champions

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 8 NC State baseball (11-0) scored eight unanswered runs late to gut out an 11-7 comeback win over CambriaCollegeClassic host Minnesota (5-6) and remain perfect in the 2020 season. The Wolfpack went 3-0 on the weekend against Big Ten opponents to win the tournament title, held inside U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn.
Additionally, Patrick Bailey, Austin Murr and Nick Swiney were named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding performances all weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Pack jumped out to an early lead in the second thanks to solo home runs by Luca Tresh and Jose Torres. Tresh led off the inning with his second long ball of the season to left field, and Torres doubled the lead with his first career homer to left field on two outs.
-Jonny Butler's RBI single to center field made the score 3-0 in the third. He drove in Tyler McDonough after a leadoff walk and pair of wild pitches put him at third.
-The Gophers responded with a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 7-3 lead, allowing the Pack to trail for the first time this weekend.
-With the bases loaded in the third, an infield single, hit-by-pitch and walk brought the first three runs across to knot the score. A one-out fielder's choice with the bases still loaded scored the go-ahead run for Minnesota.
-Jack Wassel's RBI groundout and Easton Bertrand's two-run homer to left field tacked on three runs in the fourth.
-Facing its biggest deficit of the season, the Pack clawed its way back to within one in the fifth. Bailey and Devonte Brown started the frame with a walk and outfield single, and Butler cleared the bases with his first triple of the year to right center. With Butler on third, Tresh knocked him in with a base hit to right field.
-The sixth and seventh innings were quiet for both teams, but in the eighth the Pack managed to regain its lead. McDonough and Bailey led off with base hits, and with McDonough at third he scored on a wild pitch to tie things up.
-With the bases loaded following a pair of walks, pinch hitter Noah Soles stepped up to the plate and drove in two runs to give his team the lead once again.
-McDonough added the insurance runs with his first homer of the year, a two-run shot to right field after a swinging strikeout wild pitch put Austin Murr on first.
QUICK HITS
-Sunday marked the fifth time this season the Pack has hit multiple home runs in a single game.
-It was the team's sixth consecutive game with 10 or more hits, and eighth time in the season doing so.
-The result marked the sixth time this year the squad has tallied double-digit runs in a single game.
-Bailey, Brown, McDonough and Murr all extended their reached base streaks to 11. Brown additionally extended his hit streak to 11.
-Bailey, Butler, McDonough, Tatum and Tresh tallied two hits apiece to contribute to the team's 14. McDonough leads the team with six multi-hit outings this season.
-David Harrison (2-0) was phenomenal on the mound in relief, as he pitched the last five innings and allowed just three batters to reach base.
