
Softball Welcomes #24/25 James Madison, Lehigh and North Carolina A&T

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team remains at home this weekend as it hosts the NC State Invitational, Feb. 28-March 1. Dail Softball Stadium will serve host to #24/25 James Madison, Lehigh and North Carolina A&T.
NC State kicks off the weekend with a 12:30 p.m. game against Lehigh. The Pack returns to the field for a pair of games Saturday, starting at 3 p.m. against North Carolina A&T before playing its fourth game of the season against a ranked opponent in #24/25 James Madison at 5:30 p.m. The weekend rounds up with a second game against North Carolina A&T, Sunday at 3 p.m.
LAST WEEK RECAP
The Pack went 6-0 last week, before dropping a midweek matchup against a Duke team who was receiving votes in all polls last week. NC State outscored its opponents 27-8 in the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational, including a 2-1, eight-inning victory over Indiana.
Tatyana Forbes continues to be a firecracker in the Wolfpack lineup, hitting .600 across the Wolfpack's six wins last week. Forbes ranks 15th in the nation with a .547 batting average and is second in the nation with 29 hits on the season.
A 1-2 punch in the circle for NC State continues to be led by Sydney Nester and Devin Wallace, who both had successful outings last week. In the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational and against Elon, Wallace posted a 0.78 ERA while holding opponents to a .148 batting average. The senior went 3-0 while earning her first save of the season. NC State and Clemson are the only teams in the ACC to have multiple pitchers rank among the top-100 nationally in strikeouts as Nester is 26th and Wallace is 89th.
#HOMERUNMINDSET
NC State's power offense has been highlighted by Logan Morris and Brigette Nordberg, who lead the Pack with four home runs each. Additionally, Morris leads the ACC and ranks ninth nationally with 21 RBIs through 16 games. NC State has a total of nine athletes who have at least one home run this season and six who have multiple. As a team, NC State is 20th in the nation and third in the ACC with 1.25 home runs per game.
SCOUTING LEHIGH
Lehigh opened its season Feb. 14-16 where they took wins over Georgia Southern, Bethune-Cookman and Saint Joseph's. The Mountain Hawks are led by a pair of athletes with .375 batting averages. Emily Cimino leads the team in RBIs and has the only home run of the season for Lehigh. In the circle, Parker Boyd has pitcher 18.1 of the team's 35.1 innings, holding a 1.47 ERA.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA A&T
The Aggies are off to a 2-11 start to their 2020 season, led by Stephanie Williams' .343 batting average. Williams also leads A&T in hits, RBIs and runs scored. The pitching staff is still settling in with a 7.03 ERA. Kayla Brown and Kayla Douglas have seen a majority of innings for the Aggies, holding a 4.48 and 5.10 ERA, respectively.
SCOUTING JAMES MADISON
James Madison enters with a hot offense, highlighted by Kate Gordon's .630 batting average which ranks second nationally. Gordon is also fourth in Division 1 with a 1.185 slugging percentage. As a team, the Dukes rank fourth nationally with 1.56 home runs per game and are 15th with a team .345 batting average.
Five of JMU's nine games they've played this season have come against ranked opponents, including wins over then #17 Texas Tech and #19 Missouri. Last weekend, the Dukes went 3-2 at the Georgia Classic with its lone losses coming to then-#19 Georgia.
