Pack Hits Five Homers in 12-2 Win

RALEIGH – The NC State Softball team hit a total of five home runs in a six-inning, 12-2 victory over Lehigh. The five homers are the most for the Wolfpack since May 7, 2016 at Notre Dame, where NC State also knocked in five, and tie for the fifth most in a single game in school history. The five home runs also tie an NCAA single-game best this season.
Sam Sack led the offense with two home runs, including the three-run walk off in the bottom of the sixth. Sack went 3-for-3 on the day with four RBIs and three runs scored, after also hitting a single in the fifth. The other three home runs for NC State came from Angie Rizzi, Carson Shaner and Sam Russ.
Sydney Nester earned the win after pitching 3.1 innings of relief. Nester (7-3) allowed one run on two hits and struck out three. Devin Wallace pitched the opening 2.2 innings of the game.
GAME RECAP
Russ led off the game with her second home run of the year to give the Wolfpack a lead they would never relinquish. Two straight walks to Logan Morris and Rizzi set up an RBI-double by Farricker to close out the first inning with a 2-0 lead.
Down 3-0, Lehigh pieced together a run in the top of the third following a pair of NC State fielding errors. A solo home run in the top of the fifth pulled the Mountain Hawks within one.
NC State's offense exploded in the bottom of the fifth with five runs off four hits, highlighted by a three-run pinch hit homer by Shaner. After an RBI-single by Skylar Johnston in the bottom of the sixth, Shaner reached on a fielders' choice to set up the game-winning home run by Sack.

- The team's 12 runs ties its season-high which also occurred against Elon on Feb. 19.
- Shaner has two hits on the season, with both coming as pinch hit home runs.
- Led by Sack's team-high five, the Wolfpack have eight players this season with at least two home runs.
