RALEIGH – NC State was unable to find an answer for a solid Duke team Wednesday evening at Dail Softball Stadium. Duke, who was receiving votes in both top-25 polls this week, came away with the 5-1 victory.
NC State (11-5)'s lone run came in the bottom of the first inning on a solo homer by Logan Morris. It was Morris' fourth of the year, tying her for a team best. Randi Farricker and Sam Sack both had hits late in the game but were unable to score a run.
Sydney Nester pitched five innings allowing three runs off six hits while striking out five. Nester (6-3) did not allow a walk against the 20 batters she faced. Devin Wallace entered in relief, going two innings while allowing two runs.
GAME RECAP
Duke had a quick start to open the game with a one-out home run. NC State answered right back in the bottom of the first thanks to Morris. In what was looking to be a pitchers duel, both the Blue Devil and NC State batting orders were retired quickly in the second and third inning.
Duke tacked on another run in the top of the fourth following two singles, including an RBI from Jameson Kavel. The Blue Devils second home run came in the top of the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Down 4-1, NC State's best chance came in the bottom of the sixth where the Wolfpack loaded the bases. Tatyana Forbes drew a one-out walk before Morris reached on a fielders' choice. Farricker's lone hit of the day loaded the bases, but a fly out ended the scoring opportunity.

OF NOTE
- Morris' home run was the first Duke's Peyton St. George has given up all season.
- Duke snapped Forbes' 10 game hitting streak. The senior, who has been solid all season, still holds an 11 game on-base streak after only seeing two at bats against the Blue Devils.
