Pack Moves to 9-1 for Fifth Time in Program History
RALEIGH – The No. 8 NC State women's tennis team (9-1) earned a win on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 decision over Kansas (0-4). The Pack collected a combined three ranked individual victories on the day, including two ranked singles wins.
The 2019-20 squad becomes just the fifth in program history to open the season 9-1 (1986, 1995, 2006, 2013).
NC State held the 1-0 advantage heading into singles, thanks to courts one and two, continuing the squad's perfect transcript in the capturing the doubles point this season.
On court one, the nation's top-ranked doubles duo (Anna Rogers and Alana Smith) captured a 6-2 victory over Malkia Ngounoue and Luniuska Delgado to extend their win streak to eight matches.
22nd-ranked Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami continued their dominance against ranked opponents in doubles. The duo moved to 8-0 in the category on Sunday, defeating No. 42 Sonia Smagina and Vasiliki Karvouni. Jumping out to a 5-0 lead, they cruised to a 6-1 victory on court two as the Pack took the doubles point.
Playing indoors with only four courts, NC State took all four first sets to open singles play.
No. 18 Rogers struck first with a straight-set win over No. 93 Ngournoue on court two, marking her fourth ranked singles win of the season. Shortly after, No. 23 Reami defeated Delgado (6-4, 6-1) to extend the Pack's lead 3-0 and her singles win streak to 11 matches.
On court four, Lexi Keberle continued with the straight-set win trend to secure the victory for NC State. She won a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Karvouni.
NC State rounded out the day with two more singles wins. No. 31 Smith took court one and her seventh ranked singles victory of the season over No. 63 Smagina, and Daniel captured a court-five victory with a 6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (4) win.
