Softball Hosts Elon for First Midweek Contest

RALEIGH – After going 3-1 against a pair of teams receiving votes in the top-25 poll, the NC State softball team returns to action at Dail Softball Stadium for a midweek contest, Wed., Feb. 18, against Elon.
NC State (5-4) had a solid outing last weekend, earning its best record in the Big 10/ACC Softball Challenge since its inception in 2016. The Wolfpack swept both games against Ohio State and split a pair with Illinois. Tatyana Forbes continued her hot streak, reaching base in all four games and recording a .643 batting average over the weekend. Forbes currently leads the ACC in both batting average and hits, while also ranking fifth in the nation with 17 hits.
Sam Russ and Logan Morris were the other highlights of the weekend for the Wolfpack. Russ batted .533 with eight hits, three RBIs, a home run and six stolen bases. The junior already has eight stolen bases on the season and is just one away from taking sole possession of second in career stolen bases at NC State. Morris hit two game-winning home runs in as many days, first with a three-run walk-off blast Friday evening against Ohio State before hitting a two-run homer in the top of the seventh Saturday afternoon. Her Saturday home run would be the eventual game winner as NC State won both games 5-3. Morris tallied nine RBIs over the four games and currently ranks 26th nationally with 13 runs batted in.

Elon is off to an impressive start to its 2020 season, going 7-1 to open its season for the first time since 2011. The Phoenix went 4-0 last weekend against Radford, Morgan State and Siena. The midweek matchup will be Elon's first Power Five opponent of the season.
The Phoenix are led by a pair of Megan's at the plate – Megan White and Megan Grant – who are both batting above .400. Additionally, Elon has three other batters who are above .300. Elon's pitcher's have allowed just one home run this season, while its hitters have recorded 11. Kenna Quinn ranks 15th nationally with an impressive 0.27 ERA.

In the midst of a 20-game home stand, the Wolfpack host the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational this weekend, Feb. 21-23. NC State will play host to Bucknell, Saint Joseph's and Indiana for a total of five games.
