Wolfpack Drops Final Match of Fall to No. 2 Wake Forest

RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday evening, falling to No. 2 Wake Forest by a 2-0 score inside Dail Soccer Stadium.
Prior to the match, the program celebrated the career of senior captain David Norris. The outing was Norris' 56th career start and 59th overall game played in his four years at NC State.

NC State controlled the tempo and possession in the opening portion of the game, but it was the Demon Deacons that struck first in the 16th minute. A ball from midfield snuck past NC State's back line to Wake Forest's Kyle Holcomb. Wolfpack goalkeeper Leon Krapf came out to cut off Holcomb's angle and temporarily diverted his momentum, but the Demon Deacon junior was able to recover and center a ball to a wide open Isaiah Parente who made the easy finish from 12 yards out.
Wake Forest saw a chance at doubling its lead moments later as it drew a penalty kick in the 19th minute, but Krapf read Holcomb's attempt all the way and knocked his shot away from the right post. It was the first of a total of six saves that Krapf made on the night.
Despite generating a few shots in the second half, NC State was unable to finish on any of its attempts, and Wake Forest successfully added another goal in the 74th minute. Machop Chol centered a ball from right along the goal line, and Holcomb's header went bouncing off the near post and into the back of the net.
The match served as the conclusion to the fall portion of the Wolfpack's season. Information about additional matches for the spring will be announced at a later date.
