RALEIGH – Junior catcher Patrick Bailey and the NC State baseball team received preseason recognition this week from Perfect Game, as Bailey was named a first team All-American and the Wolfpack checked in at No. 21 on its preseason top 25 poll.
This is Bailey's second preseason All-America mention from Perfect Game in his career, and second honor prior to the 2020 campaign as he recently earned the distinction from Collegiate Baseball.
Last season the Greensboro, N.C. native started 60 games behind the plate, compiling a .288 clip with 68 hits, 17 doubles, 10 homers and a .513 slugging percentage. Defensively, he committed just five errors in 476 chances for a .989 fielding percentage and threw out 33 percent of base runners attempting to swipe a bag.
Thanks to a strong 2019 campaign, he was named a Buster Posey Award Semifinalist, awarded to the top collegiate catcher of the year, and spent the summer with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Additionally, he was an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region and First Team All-ACC selection.
He was recently named one of the top 50 prospects for the 2020 MLB Draft by MLB Pipeline.
As for the Wolfpack, this is the second preseason national poll the program has been featured in, as it ranks No. 16 on Collegiate Baseball's list. This marks the 18th-straight year the squad has either started or finished the season nationally ranked.
Last season NC State collected 42 wins and earned its ninth NCAA Regional berth in the last 10 seasons.
NC State is one of seven teams featured on Perfect Game's poll and is slated to play a combined 16 games against opponents on the list.
The Pack opens the 2020 season Feb. 14 against James Madison, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park.
2020 NC State baseball season tickets are SOLD OUT. Bojangles mini packs and single game tickets are now on sale to the public.
