Wolfpack women honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
NEW ORLEANS – Seven members of the NC State men's and women's cross country teams received recognition as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes, as announced by the organization's office on Thursday afternoon. The seven honorees marks the most for the Pack in a single season in program history.
The Wolfpack women, boasting a 3.36 team GPA, also earned distinction as a 2019 All-Academic Team. This is the 12th consecutive season that the NC State cross country programs have received either team or individual honors from the USTFCCCA.
Kelsey Chmiel, Gavin Gaynor, Elly Henes, Mariah Howlett, Savannah Shaw, Julia Zachgo and Isabel Zimmermann were listed among the 283 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
Henes was named an All-Academic individual for the fourth cross country season in a row, and the honors are the second for Gaynor and Zimmermann. Chmiel, Howlett, Shaw and Zachgo all make the list as first-time honorees.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25. They must also have finished in the top 25 at the NCAA Regional Championships or be named an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
All seven runners secured spots on the All-Region Teams after their performances at the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional. Henes and Chmiel also went on to finish in the top 25 at the NCAA Championships on their way to becoming All-Americans.
The team recognition for the women adds to another incredible season put together by NC State during which the team captured ACC and Southeast Regional crowns for the fourth year in a row. The Pack went on to finish fifth in the nation at the NCAA Championships to cap off its 2019 campaign.
