Markell Johnson led the Pack with 21 points as he went over 1,000 points for his career
ATLANTA, GA. – The NC State men's basketball team faltered late in falling to Georgia Tech, 64-58, Saturday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion.
The Pack saw its three-game win streak snapped as NC State falls to 14-6, 5-4 ACC while the Yellow Jackets improve to 9-11, 4-6 ACC.
Markell Johnson led the Pack with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting and added four assists and three steals.
Johnson went over 1,000 career points on a bucket in the first half. He is the 53rd player in NC State history to score over 1,000 career points and is just the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 points, pass out 500 assists and record 125 steals.
The Pack led 55-50 with 6:21 to go after a Johnson basket, but would score only thee points the rest of the way as the Yellow Jackets closed the game by scoring 14 of the final 17 points.
Georgia Tech took went on an 8-0 run, taking a 58-55 lead with 1:52 to play on a Jose Alvarado basket.
Devon Daniels ended the run with a free throw and after Georgia Tech missed two free throws, Braxton Beverly tied the game at 58 with 44 seconds remaining.
James Banks tipped in a missed shot on Georgia Tech's next possession to give the Yellow Jackets a lead it would never relinquish.
Alvarado led the Yellow Jackets with 26 points while Evan Cole added 11 points off-the-bench.
Alvarado finished the game with eight steals which is the most for an opposing player in NC State history.
The Pack returns to action Monday night when it hosts North Carolina at 7 p.m. inside PNC Arena. The game has less than 100 tickets remaining and will be televised on ESPN.
