BLACKSBURG, Va. – Philip Hall set a new school record in the men's 1000m race at the Hokie Invitational on Friday inside Rector Field House. His 2:25.08 mark surpassed Brendan Rodgers' (2:25.83) set in 1998. Additionally, NC State collected three event titles (Michelle Cobb – triple jump, Jamar Davis – triple jump, Savannah Shaw – mile).
Jumps: NC State swept triple jump competition thanks to Cobb (43'5.75", 13.25m) and Davis (51'5", 15.67m). Both marks rank in the top-10 in school history, and Cobb's new personal-best jump ranks second in the school record books, third in the nation and first in the ACC.
Distance: Hall (2:25.08) finished fourth in the 1000m on his way to setting the school record.
In the mile, four women posted top-10 finishes: Shaw (4:42.12), Kelsey Chmiel (4:46.47), Sarah LaTour (4:54.05) and Sam Bush (4:59.70). Shaw's personal-best time ranks eighth in program history, and surpasses the ACC qualifying standard, as did Chmiel's time.
Sprints: Joshua Brockman qualified for the men's 60m hurdles final and posted an impressive top-three time in school history (8.10) on his way to a fourth-place finish in the final. Brockman's time is also faster than the ACC's 8.12 qualifying standard.
