
Pack Captures Two Titles at Gamecock Opener Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The NC State track and field team claimed two event titles and earned seven podium finishes on the second day at the Gamecock Opener.
Chris Alexander took home first-place honors in the men's long jump invite, while Michelle Cobb posted the top mark in the women's triple jump invite while setting a new PR.
Jumps: Alexander captured the men's long jump invite title with a 25'2.5" (7.68m) mark that exceeded the ACC qualifying standards and ranks in the top five in program history. Teammates Von Douglas (24'2.25") and Jamar Davis (23'11") also joined Alexander in out-jumping the conference qualifying standard.
Alexander and Davis both followed up long jump with solid triple jump performances. Davis took second-place honors with a 50'3.5" (15.33m) mark that ranks 10th in the NC State record books, while Alexander took third-place honors with a 49'7.25" (15.12m) mark.
Cobb continued the strong day in jumps for NC State as she set a new PR (42'11", 13.08m) on her way to the women's triple jump invite title. That mark ranks third in school history.
Timara Chapman took home third place in the women's high jump invite, recording a jump of 5'7" (1.70m).
Throws: With a 59'9" (18.21m) mark, Fortenberry claimed gold-medal honors in men's weight throw invite competition and heavily outthrew the conference qualifying standard (17.84m). Fortenberry concluded his day with a third-place finish in the men's shot put invite, throwing for 54'8" (16.66m), which is a top-10 mark in NC State history to surpass his second qualifying standard of the day.
