Charleston Posts Top 60M Dash Time in Nation at Gamecock Opener

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Cravont Charleston ran the 60m dash final in 6.59 at the Gamecock Opener on Friday, posting the fastest current time in the nation and this second-fastest in school history behind his own 6.54 mark. His event title marked the fourth of the day for the Pack.
Kayla Beasley threw her way to the women's shot put and weight throw titles, and teammate Anna Vess captured gold-medal honors in the women's mile.
Sprints: Mikieja Covington ran a personal-best 8.72 in the women's 60m hurdles trials, which qualified her for the semifinals. Teammate Ally Henson also qualified for the semifinals with a time of 8.83. Over the course of the day, three Pack members posted top-10 school marks in the 60m hurdles: Covington (8.72), Henson (8.83) and Alexis Postell (8.85)
McKenzie Long' 7.57 mark in the women's 60m semifinals tied for the 10th-best time in program history.
In the men's 60m semifinal, Charleston posted the fastest overall time (6.68) and outran the ACC qualifying standard (6.85).
Joshua Brockman's 8.29 in the men's 60m hurdles ranks seventh in school history.
Distance: The Wolfpack completed a sweep of the podium in the women's mile, as Vess clocked in at 4:54.06 for first place, and Savannah Shaw (4:55.06) and Sarah LaTour (4:55.30) finished in second and third place respectively.
In the men's mile, three Pack runners earned top-10 finishes: Kyle Durham, Ben Verchick and Peyton Barish. Durham finished third overall in 4:17.65.
Throws: Beasley captured the women's weight throw title with a 53'0" (16.15m) mark, and the shot put title with a 44'3.50" (13.50m) mark.
Jumps: Michelle Cobb and Covington jumped their way to top-10 finishes in long jump with 18'3.75" (5.58m) and 17'11.75" (5.48m) marks respectively. Cobb out-jumped the ACC qualifying standard (5.81m) on the way to a new PR.
