Wolfpack Opens 2020 Competition with 193.800 at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The NC State gymnastics team began its 2020 season at Ohio State Saturday, finishing the meet with a combined team score of 193.800 while the Buckeyes scored a 194.025.
Freshmen Alexis Ortega and Emily Shepard made their debuts for the Wolfpack on bars, the first rotation of the day for the team. Shepard started the day with a 9.800 in the event, as did junior Katie Cox. Shepard and Cox tied for third in event with Ohio State's Jenna Swartzentruber. Junior Lauren Kent recorded the highest score on the event with a 9.825, good for a second-place finish. As a team, NC State scored a 48.075 on bars.
The Wolfpack moved to vault for its second rotation, scoring a 48.250 as a team. Freshman Chloe Negrete made her first appearance for NC State in the event while Shepard tied for second with a 9.775.
Senior Drew Grantham highlighted the floor rotation for the Wolfpack, recording a 9.850 and finished third in the event. Fellow senior Alexis Beucler notched a 9.800 while NC State as a team finished the event with a 48.875.
The final rotation for NC State was beam, in which the team scored a 48.600. Negrete anchored the lineup, and Grantham completed the event in third place with a 9.775.
Kent won the all-around, notching a 38.850 across all events.
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack travels to Lexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky with UNC and Lindenwood Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
