No. 23 Men's Tennis Kicks Off Season with Home Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. - The 23rd-ranked NC State men's tennis team opens its 2020 season Jan. 11 with a pair of home matches against Elon (11 a.m.) and USC Upstate (4 p.m.). The doubleheader marks the Wolfpack's first dual match action of the season.
NC State completed the 2019 season ranked No. 23 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings and returns senior Alexis Galarneau to the squad this season, as well as a strong junior class. Galarneau completed the 2019 season ranked No. 26 and was named the ITA Carolina Region Player to Watch.
The Wolfpack was selected to postseason competition in 2019, competing against Middle Tennessee in the first round before falling to Tennessee in the second round. Galarneau was additionally chosen for the NCAA Singles Championships, traveling to Orlando, Fla., to take on Mississippi State's Nuno Borges.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
Elon defeated UNCW in 2019 in a tight 4-3 decision to take home its first CAA Championship in program history at the end of the 2019 season. The Phoenix competed in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Championships, taking on No. 18 Georgia but ultimately fell to the Bulldogs 4-0. Elon returns five members of last year's squad.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
USC Upstate advanced to the quarterfinals round of the Big South Championships before falling to Gardner-Webb 4-0. The Spartans' roster includes three freshmen as well as three returners from the previous team.
UP NEXT
NC State goes on the road, visiting No. 17 Michigan Jan. 15 for a 4:30 p.m. matchup and Northwestern at 6 p.m. Jan. 17.
