Wolfpack Goes 2-0 in Season-Opening Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. - The 23rd-ranked NC State men's tennis team started spring action with a pair of home wins Saturday, taking down Elon 7-0 and USC Upstate 7-0. The Wolfpack did not drop a set in either match.
NC State 7, Elon 0
The Wolfpack took the doubles point against Elon, getting wins on courts two and three. Alexis Galarneau and Robert Turzak were the first duo with a win, defeating Chung-Han Tsai and Nicholas Condos 6-1. Rafa Izquierdo Luque and Collin Shick clinched the doubles point for the Wolfpack with a 6-2 victory over Sam Dively and Jacob Bicknell.
In singles, sophomore Yannai Barkai was the first to victory, defeating Elon's Camilo Ponce 6-2, 6-1. Junior Tadas Babelis clinched the match for NC State with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Condos.
NC State 7, USC Upstate 0
The Pack jumped out to quick lead in doubles as Galarneau and Turzak defeated Fernando Bernardes and Frederick Sydow 6-0. Izquierdo Luque and Shick were victorious over Leon Roider and Tom Russwurm with a 6-1 score to win the doubles point for NC State.
Barkai completed his singles match first with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win over Bernardes. Catry defeated Sydow by the same margin. Rocens' 6-4, 6-4 win over Luka Eble sealed the match, giving the Wolfpack a 4-0 lead on the way to a 7-0 victory.
