RALEIGH – Atlantic Coast Conference action kicks off this weekend for the NC State volleyball team as it closes out a lengthy stretch of road games at Louisville and Notre Dame. The Pack takes on Louisville Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. before traveling to South Bend for a 1 p.m. matchup against Notre Dame Sept. 29. Both matches will be broadcast on ACCNX.
The Pack closed out its non-conference schedule last weekend with a 3-0 sweep against Furman, led by junior Melissa Evans' ninth-straight double-digit kill match. Evans has a team-best 3.92 kills per set this season, ranking third in the ACC. Kaylee Frazier currently ranks second in the league with 4.65 digs per set.
Currently receiving votes in the AVCA poll, Louisville (7-3) has been ranked as high as No. 22 this season. Louisville completed non-conference play last weekend with a 3-2 win over Cincinnati where senior Melanie McHenry tied a career-high 30 kills.
Junior Alexis Hamilton averages 3.39 digs per set, good for seventh in the ACC. The Cardinals as a whole keep their opponents to a hitting percentage of .169, sitting at third in the conference.
Notre Dame (7-3) is coming off a home and home series with Michigan. The Fighting Irish took their home stand, 3-2, before dropping the tilt at Michigan, 3-1. Freshman Caroline Meuth and sophomore Sydney Bent led Notre Dame, each tallying a double-double in the loss to the Wolverines. Sunday's match is poised to be a defensive battle between the teams as Notre Dame leads the conference with 16.00 digs per set in comparison to NC State's 15.06, which ranks third.
The Fighting Irish begin a four-match home stretch against North Carolina Sept. 27 before taking on the Wolfpack.
Both the Cardinals and the Fighting Irish have dropped just two matches in the month of September. Louisville's losses came against No. 23 Purdue and No. 16 Kentucky while Notre Dame's were to Cincinnati and Michigan. Both Louisville and Notre Dame are 5-1 this season at home.
