
Wolfpack Opens ACC Play At #8 Duke Sunday

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (5-3-0) is set to open Atlantic Coast Conference play Sunday when it makes the short trip to No. 8 Duke (5-1-1). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C., and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
LAST TIME OUT
Sparked by four first-half goals, the Wolfpack closed out nonconference play on Wednesday at East Carolina with a 5-2 win. Ricci Walkling, Paige Griffiths and Leyah Hall-Robinson each scored for the first time this year, and Tziarra King tallied a career-high seven points with two goals and three assists.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will be the 36th meeting in history between the programs, as the Blue Devils own a 23-10-2 advantage in the all-time series.
Last year, Duke traveled to Raleigh on Sept. 28 and the teams battled to a 1-1 draw. It was the first time since 2000 that the Wolfpack had beaten or tied Duke in a match.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Sunday continues a four-game road swing for the Pack. After its match at Duke, the team will visit in-state conference foes No. 4 North Carolina (Sept. 26) and Wake Forest (Sept. 29).
CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
King once again moved up in the NC State record books after her performance at East Carolina on Wednesday. Her 42 career goals tie for the third-most in program history, while her 101 career points rank fifth all-time.
Additionally, Walkling's 21 career assists rank ninth in the record books.
GOALS PER GAME
As ACC play kicks off Sunday for the Pack, King is currently averaging 1.00 goals per game. That mark ranks second in the ACC and eighth in the NCAA, as she has scored seven goals in as many games played.
The Blue Devils are on a four-game undefeated streak, having won its last three matches. In its last two matches (vs. LSU on Sept. 8 and James Madison on Sept. 15), Duke collected a pair of 6-0 shutout wins.
Ella Stevens and Marykate McGuire pace the squad with five goals apiece, while Mackenzie Pluck has scored four. The three players combined make up 70 percent of the team's goals scored this year.
Goalkeeper Brooke Heinsohn has spent a majority of time in goal this year for the Blue Devils, allowing just four goals and compiling a .810 save percentage. Heinsohn and teammate Ruthie Jones have combined for five shutouts.
