Pack Finishes in Seventh Place at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

CAREFREE, Ariz. – The NC State men's golf team shot its best team score of the season, a six-under par 274, to move up four positions and finish in seventh place at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate played at the Mirabel Golf Club.
Arizona State won the tournament by seven shots over Arizona. Clemson finished in third place, two shots back of the Wildcats.
Arizona State was the only team to shoot a better team score than the Pack on Sunday.
For the second consecutive tournament, senior Christian Salzer was the highest finisher for the Pack. The Sumter, S.C., native shot a one-under par 69 on Sunday and finished with a 54-hole score of three-under par to finish in a tie for 24th place.
Freshman Spencer Oxendine was next for the Pack in a tie for 33rd place at one-under for the tournament. The Fayetteville, N.C. native shot the best round of his young collegiate career on Sunday as he posted two-under par 68 to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard during the final round.
Freshman Max Steinlechner was next for the Pack in a tie for 49th place at two-over par for the tournament. Like his fellow freshman Oxendine, Steinlechner posted the best round of his collegiate career on Sunday as the Austria native shot a four-under par 66 to close the tourney.
Junior Easton Paxton was next for the Pack, one shot back of Steinlechner in a tie for 531st place. Paxton rebounded from a first round 76 to fire a 66 in the second round and a 71 on Sunday.
At nearby Desert Forest Golf Club, Brett McLamb finished with co-medalist honors at the Mea Lanakila Individual tournament. The graduate transfer from Campbell was the only player in the field to post under-par scores in all three rounds. Trailing by one shot heading into Sunday's final round, McLamb posted a two-under 70 to finish in a tie for first with Alex del Ray of Arizona State at six-under par.
Freshman Carter Graf also participated in the Mea Lanakila Individual and finished in a tie for 10th place. The Canada native shot a 69 and 72 in the opening two rounds before finishing the tournament with a five-over par 77 on Sunday.
After consecutive weekends of play, NC State takes a few weeks off from competition and will resume play Saturday, Oct. 5 when it hosts the 54-hole Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
