AUSTIN, Texas – On the third day at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Ian Shanklin's All-American performance in the men's 5,000m final highlighted the Friday night stage for NC State.
Shanklin clocked in at 14:13.57 on the hot Texas night, good for an 11th-place finish. The Second Team All-America honor marks the 10th All-America citation for the program in the men's 5,000m and the first since 2014 when Andrew Colley notched an 11th place-finish.
The Greensboro, N.C., native has not finished outside the top 11 in a 5,000m race this season and garnered All-ACC honors in the event for the indoor and outdoor seasons. His fourth-place finish (14:01.32) at the NCAA East Preliminary advanced him to the 5,000m finals on Friday.
Jamar Davis concluded an impressive 2019 outdoor campaign in men's triple jump on the third day of the meet. The freshman recorded his best mark of the day (50'1.75", 15.28m) on his second attempt. The all-conference performer's NCAA Championships participation earned him USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-American status.
