RALEIGH -- NC State is set to conclude its 2018-19 track and field season in Austin, Texas, as the squad will be represented in five events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the most for the program since 2016. The meet will be held from June 5-8 at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium.
Â
The Pack opens up competition on Wednesday with the men's 4x100m relay semifinal and men's 100m dash (Cravont Charleston) semfinal, followed by the women's 3,000m steeplechase semifinal (Nell Crosby) on Thursday as the runners look to qualify for the finals in their respective events.
Â
On Friday, NC State will be represented in the finals in the men's triple jump (Jamar Davis) and in the men's 5,000m (Ian Shanklin).
Â
Road to the NCAA Championships:
Charleston is set to compete individually in the men's 100m dash. Tying for a ninth-place finish in the NCAA East Preliminary final, the junior crossed the finish line in 10.22. The trip to Austin, Texas, will mark the four-time ACC Champion's first trip to the outdoor championships.
Â
Davis makes his NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships debut after recording at personal-best 51'5" (15.67m) mark in men's triple jump at the NCAA East Preliminary, placing 10th. The freshman has placed in the top 10 in the event in every meet he has competed in.
Â
Davis is coming off a successful indoor campaign, earning All-America honors after being the only freshman to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in men's triple jump. He earned All-ACC performer status in the event in the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Â
Shanklin joins Davis in the category of freshman qualifiers as he is set to compete in the men's 5,000m. The outdoor all-conference honoree clocked in at the preliminary at a season-best 14:01.32, good for a fourth-place finish. He jumpstarted his collegiate career in the indoor season with an ACC title in the 5,000m.
Â
Crosby earned a spot at the national meet in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. The graduate student placed 11th at the NCAA East Preliminary with a 10:08.54 mark to advance. A two-time All-American in the event while at Columbia, she looks to become the first NC State All-American in the women's 3,000m steeplechase.
Â
Rounding out the Pack representatives is the men's 4x100m relay team. Junpai Dowdy, Charleston, Shannon Patterson, and Quashawn Cunningham advanced to the championships after posting the program's sixth-fastest time (39.17). Finishing fourth at the NCAA East Preliminary, NC State enters the race with All-American experience, as seniors Patterson and Cunningham will compete in their second 4x100m relay at the championships. The two helped the Pack collect its first 4x100m relay All-American honors since 1991 after qualifying in 2016.
