RALEIGH – The NC State softball team (26-26, 6-15 ACC) will close out its home slate this weekend when it hosts Louisville (33-17, 12-9 ACC) in a three-game series at Dail Stadium. The teams will play at 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday, and all three games will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
Sunday's game will be NC State's Senior Day, and the team's senior class will be honored prior to the start of the series finale.
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS:
Friday, May 3 – 6 p.m.
Saturday, May 4 – 2 p.m.
Sunday, May 5 – 12 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY:
Friday will be the 14th overall meeting between the Cardinals and the Wolfpack, and Louisville comes into the weekend owning a 10-3 lead in the all-time series between the two programs.
The teams last met on March 30-31, 2018 in Louisville, and the Cardinals took that three-game series by a 2-1 count.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State returned home for an ACC series against Virginia last weekend and suffered a series sweep.
SAM'S STEALS:
With three steals in the Pack's weekend series against the Cavaliers, Sam Russ tied a program record for single-season stolen bases with 27 on the year. That number ranks third in the ACC this season, and her next steal will set a new program record in that category.
HOME RUN MINDSET:
NC State hit six home runs in its most recent series, marking the most for the Pack in a single ACC series this season, to move its total to 59 long balls on the year, which ranks sixth in program history.
Brigette Nordberg's two-run homer in Sunday's game was her 16th of the year and bumped her to sole possession of fourth in program history for single-season home runs by an individual. She ranks in a tie for second in the ACC and a tie for 19th in the nation in homers.
NO TROUBLE WITH DOUBLE:
The Pack has successfully turned 21 double plays during the 2019 season, which ranks fourth in the single-season record book and is tied for 33rd in the nation this year.
SCOUTING LOUISVILLE:
The Cardinals enter the weekend ranked third in the Atlantic Division and fifth overall in the ACC with a 12-9 clip in conference play. Louisville most recently faced UNC-Chapel Hill in a weekend series at home as it dropped the first two games to the Tar Heels but managed to salvage the series finale.
Sidney Melton paces the Cardinal offense with a .347 batting average and 31 RBIs. Melton has also managed to do damage on the base path as she ranks second in the league in steals with 28 on the year. Megan Hensley leads the squad in homers (10) and RBIs (39) with her .337 batting average.
In the circle, Taylor Roby owns the pitching staff's best ERA of 2.76 with a 13-2 record on the year, while Danielle Watson is 11-12 in 33 appearances with 145 strikeouts and a 3.50 ERA.
