RALEIGH – After two weekends in a row on the road, NC State softball (26-23, 6-12 ACC) will host a home series this weekend as it welcomes Virginia (17-30, 5-16 ACC) to Raleigh. The teams will play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. at Dail Softball Stadium, and all three games will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS:
Friday, April 26 – 6 p.m.
Saturday, April 27 – 2 p.m.
Sunday, April 28 – 12 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY:
Friday's game will be the 43rd overall meeting between NC State and Virginia, with the Wolfpack owning the 27-15 all-time advantage between the two teams. The Pack has won the last four series played against the Cavaliers and has swept Virginia in three of those four series.
The Pack and the Cavaliers most recently met for a three-game series April 17-19, 2017. NC State came away with the series sweep in that matchup.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State fell to Campbell, 8-6, Wednesday evening in its final midweek contest of the regular season. The Pack strung together three hits in a row in the bottom of the seventh inning and plated a pair of late runs off of those hits but was unable to overcome the four-run deficit that it faced heading into the final inning of action.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA:
The Cavaliers enter the weekend on a five-game losing streak after dropping their midweek doubleheader games to James Madison on Tuesday and getting swept by Notre Dame last weekend. The squad won its first ACC series of the season as it swept Pittsburgh on March 9-10 and has yet to take a conference series since.
As a team, Virginia is batting .261 as Lacy Smith leads the team offensively with a .406 clip, 58 hits, 14 home runs, 38 RBIs and 114 total bases. The Cavaliers average 6.60 hits and 3.62 runs per game.
Virgina's pitching staff owns a 5.54 earned-run average as Aly Rayle paces the squad with a 5.27 ERA and a 6-12 record in 29 appearances and 82.1 innings pitched. The Cavaliers average 8.85 strikeouts per contest.
ON DECK:
NC State will wrap up its 2019 regular season next weekend as it hosts Louisville for its final ACC series of the year. The teams will face each other on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m., with all three contests set to be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
