RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team picked up its seventh shutout win of the season as it defeated visiting NC Central, 1-0, Tuesday evening at Dail Softball Stadium. With the win, the Wolfpack improves to 26-22 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 17-24 on the season.
A home run hit by Chandley Garner in the top of the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game as her one-out solo shot put the only run of the game on the board.
OF NOTE:
- Garner's home run was her first of the season and her first since April 29, 2018. It made her the 10th Wolfpack player to hit a home run this season.
- Garner's homer marked the 53rd on the year for the Pack and was the 26th time the squad has gone yard in its home stadium during the 2019 campaign. NC State has now hit one out of the park five times in its last three outings.
- Kama Woodall threw a complete game shutout, NC State's first since March 9 of this season when Sydney Nester threw one in the Pack's win over College of Charleston. Woodall walked just one batter that she faced and fanned three on the evening.
- In addition to a solid defensive effort in left field, Sam Russ secured her 10th multi-hit performance of the year as she went 2-for-3 on the outing. She also tied her career high in single-game stolen bases with two on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The teams went scoreless for three full innings. With two Eagle runners on base in the top of the third inning, NC Central's Madison Mifsud sent a hard-hit ball to left field where Russ made the snag at the wall to steal what would have been a three-run homer.
- In the top of the fourth inning, Garner swung at the second pitch of her at-bat to send a solo shot over the right center wall for what would be the game-winning run.
- NC State's defense went on to send the Eagles down in order in the top of both the fifth and sixth innings.
- NC Central saw a pair of runners take second and third in the top of the seventh inning, but a fly out to center field ended the threat and secured the Pack's win.
ON DECK:
The Pack will be back in action at home on Wednesday night as it welcomes Campbell to Raleigh for its final midweek matchup of the season. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Dail Softball Stadium, and the contest will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.

Sam Russ of @PackSoftball just robbed a certain three-run home run with this terrific catch.
