RALEIGH – The NC State softball team's seven-game road swing continues on Wednesday afternoon as it visits Elon. First pitch between the Wolfpack (23-20) and the Phoenix (23-16-1) is set for 4:30 p.m. from Hunt Softball Park.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Pack owns the 12-8 lead in the all-time series between the two teams as Wednesday's game will mark the 21st meeting between the squads.
NC State and Elon last squared off on Feb. 21, 2018 at Dail Softball Stadium. The Pack shut out the Phoenix, winning by a 7-0 score. Kama Woodall and Devin Wallace combined to pitch the shutout, with Wallace closing out the final five innings and getting the win.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State dropped its road series at Notre Dame last weekend as the Fighting Irish won games one and three to secure the series victory. The Pack picked up a win in the second game of the three-game series as it defeated the Irish by a 9-4 score in the first of two contests played in a Saturday doubleheader.
Randi Farricker drove in a team-best four runs in the second game of the series and totaled six RBIs on the weekend. Farricker collected three hits, the most in a single game in her career, in game two against the Fighting Irish, and her four RBIs in that outing also marked a single-game career best.
HOME RUN MINDSET:
The Wolfpack hit three home runs in its Saturday win against Notre Dame, marking its first time hitting at least three home runs in a game since it did so against Charleston Southern on March 12. The three homers put NC State's team total at 47 on the year, which is just three shy of tying for seventh in program history in single-season home runs.
STARTING STRONG:
NC State has been the first to score in 19 of its 43 games this season, and it is a perfect 19-0 when scoring first in an outing. The Pack has gotten on the board during the first inning of 15 games this season and has gone on to secure the win in 13 of those 15 games.
SCOUTING ELON:
The Phoenix enter Wednesday's matchup with a 23-16-1 record on the season and currently ranks third in the Colonial Athletic Association. Elon owns a 16-6 record in contests played on its home field.
Elon picked up a win in its most recent series as it took two out of three over Delaware. After dropping the first game to the Blue Hens, the Phoenix went on to win game two, 3-2, and game three, 8-3 to secure the series victory.
The pitching staff owns a combined 3.62 ERA, which is good for third in the CAA. The team is paced by Abby Barker, whose 2.48 ERA ranks sixth in the conference.
Elon bats .255 as a team, led by Megan White whose .308 batting average is the only on the team with a batting average above .300. Ally Repko joins White as one of the Phoenix's top hitters, as her four home runs and 21 RBIs both lead the team.
