
Pack Finishes in tie for Fourth Place at The Hayt

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team moved up one position on the final day of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational to finish in a tie for fourth place at the annual tournament held at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The 88 golfers faced rainy and blustery conditions on Monday as only one player in the field shot below par and the best team score of the day was six-over par by Tennessee which won the tournament despite starting the day in sixth place.
The Pack shot a team score of 309, 21-over par in the final round. It marks the highest team score of the season, but still was the fourth-lowest team score of the final round.
NC State finished in a tie for fourth place with tournament-host North Florida at 25-over par. The two teams finished one shot back of Louisville and North Carolina which tied for second-place at 24-over par. Tennessee won the tournament with a final score of 11-over par.
Despite a difficult third round, senior Stephen Franken was still able to post his 17th career top-10 performance as the Raleigh native finished in a tie for eighth place. The reigning ACC Player of the Year finished the tournament at three-over par with a final scorecard of 71-68-80—219.
Benjamin Shipp was next for the Pack in a tie for 16th place. Shipp shot four-over par on Monday and finished with a 54-hole scorecard of 72-74-76—222.
It's the sixth top-20 performance for Shipp this season.
Harrison Rhoades also registered a top-20 performance, finishing one shot back of Shipp in a tie for 19th place. Rhoades moved up 24 spots on the final day as only two golfers in the tournament shot better than his final round score of 73. The Raleigh native finished the tournament with a final scorecard of 75-75-73—223.
Christian Salzer finished in a tie for 49th place at the 14-over par for the tournament. Salzer finished with a scorecard of 73-77-80—230.
Easton Paxton rounded out the Pack lineup in a tie for 62nd place. The sophomore finished with a scorecard of 74-73-86—233.
Freshman Thomas Deal played as an individual in this tournament and finished in a tie for 82nd place with a final scorecard of 78-79-85—242.
The Pack returns to action Friday, April 12 when it begins play at the Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs in Cary.
