Pack Impresses on First Day at #RaleighRelays

RALEIGH – The NC State track and field team kicked off Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in impressive fashion on Friday, collecting four podium finishes, including one event title.

Sprints: Shannon Patterson recorded a top-five finish in the men's 400m with a time of 47.40, a new personal-best. With a 47.73 mark, Junpai Dowdy finished in eighth place.
Distance: Julia Zachgo's 10:28.82 in the women's 3000m steeplechase cracked the top 10, checking in at No. 8 on the day.
Nevada Mareno finished the women's 5000m in 16:14.83
In the men's 1500m, Philip Hall ran for a personal-best 3:44.73, earning bronze-medal honors.
Ian Shanklin closed out the men's 5000m race in 13:55.13, placing 10th overall. Patrick Sheehan ran the race in 14:03.76, and Ben Barrett checked in at 14:09.72. Competing unattached, Nate Kawalec ran a 14:08.03.
Throws: Lauren Evans took home first-place honors in shot put with a 51'1.5" (15.58m) mark.

In men's discus throw, Tyson Fortenberry's 166'0" (50.60m) mark earned him a top-five finish.
Jumps: Jamar Davis continued his impressive freshman campaign with a silver-medal performance in men's long jump, jumping 23'11.75".

In women's long jump, Janel Pate's 19'4.25" (5.90m) mark was good for third place and sits at No. 5 in school history.
Michelle Cobb finished tied for 10th in women's long jump, recording a 17'11.5" (5.47m) mark.
