
Softball Falls In Series Finale With No. 3 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The NC State softball team (16-14, 0-6 ACC) fell in its series finale with No. 3 Florida State (32-3, 5-1 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla., 8-0 (6).
Of Note
-Sam Russ extended her reached base safely streak to 22 consecutive games with a leadoff triple in the first, which is the second-longest streak in program history behind Renada Davis, who held a 32-game streak in 2015.
-Chandley Garner and Skylar Johnston collected base hits in the contest alongside Russ.
-Kama Woodall (0-2) made her first start of the season in the circle, giving up two earned runs on three hits and as many walks in three innings of work.
-Sydney Nester and Devin Wallace also saw time in the circle, giving up a combined six runs on seven hits in the final three innings.
How It Happened
-The Seminoles broke the deadlock in the second thanks to Makinzy Herzog's solo shot to left center.
-In the fourth, FSU plated four runs on three hits and an error to extend its lead to five.
-Leslie Farris's bases-clearing triple up the right field line drove in the first three runs after a pair of walks and single loaded up the bases with no outs.
-Carsyn Gordon's one-out RBI single through the right side drove in the other run of the frame.
-Herzog's RBI groundout to short plated a sixth run for FSU in the fifth inning. Dani Morgan led off the side with a single to left and stolen base, and Zoe Casas's single to second allowed her to threaten.
-Elizabeth Mason's two-run homer in the sixth sealed the run-rule win for the Noles.
