
Softball Drops Series Opener With No. 3 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The NC State softball team (16-12, 0-4 ACC) dropped its series opener with No. 3 Florida State (30-3, 3-1 ACC) on Friday evening at the JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla., 9-0 (5).
Of Note
-Sam Russ extended her reached base safely streak to 20 consecutive games, which is the third-longest in program history behind former standout Renada Davis (32 games in 2015 and 21 games in '13).
-Devin Wallace (7-8) took the loss in the circle as she gave up eight earned runs on five hits and six walks. She picked up three strikeouts in the contest.
-Florida State pitcher Meghan King (15-1) threw a no-hitter, the fourth of her career, as she recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed two walks in her outing.
How It Happened
-The Seminoles took a 3-0 lead in the first thanks to Elizabeth Mason's bases loaded walk followed by Dani Morgan and Zoe Casas's RBI groundouts.
-FSU extended its lead to five in the second on Anna Shelnutt's leadoff homer to left and an RBI fielder's choice by Mason after the team loaded the bases on a bunt single and pair of walks.
-The Noles plated four more runs on two hits in the fourth. After a walk and infield single started the side, a pair of errors allowed the first run to cross. Morgan's three-run shot to center tacked on the other three runs.
On Deck
NC State will look to even the series Saturday in game two of the weekend matchup with the Seminoles. First pitch is 1 p.m. at the JoAnne Graf Field and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
