
Extra-Inning Surge Powers Pack Past Buccaneers

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Thanks to a six-run surge in the eighth inning that featured three home runs, the NC State softball team (16-8) picked up its fourth consecutive win on Tuesday evening at Charleston Southern (6-22) at the CSU Softball Complex, as it defeated the Buccaneers, 8-2 (8).
The Pack scored in the third and sixth, but the Bucs came back in the seventh to knot the game at two and force it to extras. It was the first time this season NC State has gone to extras and managed to plate six runs on eight hits to capture the victory.
Of Note
-Brigette Nordberg, Skylar Johnston, Randi Farricker and Kelli Wagner contributed two hits apiece in the team's season-high 14. Nordberg and Johnston additionally drove in two runs each.
-Johnston, Logan Morris and Farricker each hit a home run in the game, giving the team 34 this season.
-Devin Wallace (7-5) picked up the win in the circle as she threw seven complete innings, allowing an earned run while striking out seven. Brittany Nimmo tossed the final inning, fanning two to close out the game.
How It Happened
-After two scoreless innings, the Pack scored its first run of the contest in the third on two hits and a walk. Wagner led off with a single to left center and stole second, and after Angie Rizzi was walked April Visser's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Sam Russ drove in Wagner from third with a base hit through the right side.
-NC State extended its lead to two in the sixth thanks to Natalie Jones's one-out RBI double to center field after Johnston and Morris got on base with a pair of outfield singles.
-Charleston Southern knotted the game at two in the seventh on Caitlyn Emberson's two-run home run to right field after an error started the side.
-In the eighth the Pack tacked on six runs on eight hits that was highlighted by Johnston, Morris and Farricker's home runs. Nordberg additionally drove in two runs with the bases loaded on a single to the shortstop.

The Pack will open conference play this weekend when it welcomes Virginia Tech to Dail Stadium for a three-game series. The teams will play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
