
Softball Wraps Up Road Swing Tuesday At Charleston Southern

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team (15-8) will wrap up its six-game road swing in Charleston, S.C., Tuesday when it faces Charleston Southern (6-21) for a midweek game. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the CSU Softball Complex, and only live stats will be provided.
This will be the final contest for the Wolfpack before it opens ACC play this weekend vs. Virginia Tech at home.
Series History
Tuesday will be the sixth all-time meeting between the Wolfpack and Buccaneers, and second in the 2019 season. NC State leads the all-time series, 4-1.
In the last meeting between the teams, the Buccaneers traveled to Raleigh for the NC State Invite on March 2, and the Wolfpack earned a 6-0 shutout win.
Last Time Out
The Wolfpack went 4-1 last weekend at the Charleston Invitational, capturing shutout wins over Marist (3-0), Bryant (4-0), host College of Charleston (2-0) and Youngstown State (1-0).
Pitchers Sydney Nester and Devin Wallace combined to allow just one earned run in five games, and Nester threw her first career no-hitter vs. College of Charleston on Saturday. She struck out a career-best 15 in the outing, which was the most by a Wolfpack player since Emily Weiman's 18 vs. Lipscomb on March 13, 2015.
Wallace also notched a career-best in strikeouts as she fanned 10 in the result vs. Bryant on Saturday.
Scouting Charleston Southern
The Bucs are on a three-game loss streak and have lost nine of their last 10 games. Charleston Southern traveled to the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge last weekend and went 1-3. Its only win was a 5-4 result over Cleveland State and two of its losses were in run-rule fashion.
Annie Bakenhus leads the team at the plate with a .354 batting average, 29 hits and 17 runs. Caitlyn Emberson additionally owns a team-best three home runs, 16 runs batted in and 13 walks. The team is averaging 5.16 hits per game and scoring an average of 2.96 runs per game.
Charleston Southern's pitching staff has compiled a 5.21 earned-run average in 27 games, as Arizona Pilgrim paces the team with a 4.44 ERA and 3-10 record in 77.1 innings pitched. The staff is allowing 8.15 hits and 5.89 runs per game.
