
Softball Travels To Charlotte Wednesday

RALEIGH – After a 3-0 weekend at home in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational, the NC State softball team (6-6) will travel to Charlotte (5-6) for its first midweek game of the season. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium, and the contest will be streamed on C-USA TV.
Series History
Wednesday will be the 23rd all-time meeting between NC State and Charlotte, and the Pack leads the series 16-6. NC State has won six of the last seven meetings.
The Pack and 49ers last met on March 1, 2017, at Charlotte, and NC State fell 5-3.
Last Time Out
The team went 3-0 in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational with a pair of run-rule wins over Murray State as well as a 2-1 win over UMBC.

The Red and White hit seven home runs last weekend in its three games and has now belted 16 this season. The team is averaging 1.33 home runs per game, which ranks T14th in the NCAA.
In the team's game vs. Murray State on Monday, Brigette Nordberg and Natalie Jones combined for four home runs, which were the most in a single game since May 7, 2016, when the Pack hit five at Notre Dame.
Nordberg hit three of the home runs, which were the most in a single game since April 8, 2017, by Molly Hutchison at Georgia Tech. Her six on the season ranks first on the team and in the ACC, and T8th in the NCAA.
Effective In The Circle
The pitching staff has been essential in the Wolfpack's 6-6 start. It has held opponents to a .220 batting average, which is the third-lowest among the conference.
Sydney Nester and Devin Wallace were effective in the team's three wins in its last time out, as they allowed just one earned run in 17 innings and combined for a .41 earned-run average. They rank among the top 10 in the ACC in strikeouts, as Nester is fifth with 35 this year and Wallace is ninth with 31.
Reaching Safely
Four players on the Pack's roster have reached base safely on a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in at least four consecutive games. Logan Morris leads the team with a six-game streak, while Nordberg has reached safely the last five outings. Skylar Johnston and Sam Russ both own a four-game streak.

Like NC State, Charlotte is coming off of a pair of run-rule wins from its last time out. The 49ers defeated Winthrop and Youngstown State, 9-1 (5), but also fell to No. 15 South Carolina, 9-1 (5) in the Charlotte First Pitch Classic.
Six players are batting over .300 on the 49ers' roster, and are led by Bailey Vannoy (.440 BA, 11 H, .640 SLG) and Emma Ocker (.400, 12 H, .700 SLG). Kiersten Berrier currently leads the squad with 13 hits while Meredith Harris owns a team-best 10 RBI on the year.
Charlotte's pitching staff has compiled a 7.29 earned-run average and is led by Carson Pace (.6.35 ERA, 5 APP, 22.2 IP, 16 ER). The team is averaging just 2.54 strikeouts per game.

NC State will host its final tournament of 2019 this weekend, the NC State Invitational in conjunction with the Duke Invitational. The Pack will play Campbell twice and Charleston Southern and Kansas once apiece over the three-day tournament.
