
Pack Run-Rules Racers To Close Out Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team (6-6) closed out competition on Monday in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational at Dail Stadium with a 10-1 (5) win over Murray State (4-9). Brigette Nordberg hit three home runs in the game and Natalie Jones tacked on one of her own, as the two combined for nine runs batted in on the day.
With the inclement weather throughout the weekend in Raleigh, the game was pushed back to Monday.
Despite the Racers taking the early lead in the first, the Wolfpack quickly responded in the bottom frame and never looked back. The victory extends the Pack's win streak to three.
Of Note
-This was the team's second consecutive run-rule win this year, and the second time it has scored 10 runs in a single game.
-The four combined home runs were the most in a single game since May 7, 2016, when the Pack hit five at Notre Dame.
-Nordberg's three home runs in a single game was a first for her, and the last time an NC State player hit three homers in a game was on April 8, 2017, by Molly Hutchison at Georgia Tech.
-Nordberg additionally had 12 total bases in the contest. The last time a player had more than 10 total bases in a single game was Tyler Ross (11) on April 21, 2017, at Pittsburgh.
-All three of Nordberg's long balls were two-run homers. The last time a player tallied six RBI in a single game was Cheyenne Balzer on Feb. 23, 2018, vs. Delaware State.
-Sydney Nester (4-2) threw her second complete game of the year, giving up just three hits and allowing a pair of walks while fanning five.

-Murray State's lone run came in the first inning on Madison Culver's sacrifice fly to center field. A walk and infield single started the game, and a dropped third strike allowed the runners to advance to second and third.
-The Pack quickly responded with Nordberg's first home run of the game in the bottom frame, a two-run shot to right field after Sam Russ led off with a hit-by-pitch.
-The Racers threatened in the third as they loaded the bases on an error, hit-by-pitch and single with two outs, but Nester ended the side with a swinging strikeout.
-Nordberg hit another two-run homer in the third to left field, giving her team a 4-1 advantage after Russ reached base with a leadoff walk.
-NC State's final six runs came in the fifth on three hits and an error. Nordberg belted her third long ball of the game, another two-run shot to right field, while Jones hit a three-run homer to left field and Kelli Wagner tacked on a run with her sacrifice fly to center field.
