Wolfpack Posts Solid Starts to Season at Boston Season Opener, JDL Kick-Off Classic

BOSTON, Mass. – At the Boston Season Opener, Kelsey Chmiel kicked off her collegiate track & field career with a top-five women's 5k time in school history. The freshman notched a time of 16:02.06, outrunning the ACC qualifying time by over 45 seconds.
RESULTS
WOMEN'S 5K
Sprints: Sophomore Timara Chapman clocked in at 8.89 in the 60m hurdles prelims, a top-10 program mark, and advanced to the finals.
Throws: Tyson Fortenberry was crowned the JDL Kick-Off Classic men's weight throw champion after a 59'2.75" (18.05m) performance. He also took home second-place honors and posted an ACC qualifying mark with a top-10 throw in school history (53'9", 16.38m) in men's shot put.
Jaylen Spellman made his indoor season weight throw debut with a 45'1" (13.74m) mark.
On the women's side, Harris and Kayla Beasley earned a pair of top-10 finishes in women's weight throw. Harris posted a 55'7.50" (16.95m) throw that registered in second place, and Beasley threw for 47'5.25" (14.46m).
Jumps: Chapman set a new high jump personal-best in her season debut, recording a 5'5" (1.65m) mark.
