December 19, 2019
RALEIGH - For the second year in a row, the ninth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (11-0) wrapped up the non-conference portion of its regular season with a perfect record as it defeated visiting Chattanooga 74-38 Thursday evening on Kay Yow Court inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack began to pull away from the Mocs in the second quarter thanks to a 23-0 run that spanned 7:44. During that run, NC State forced Chattanooga into five turnovers and held it to 0-of-10 from the field. The Pack went on to outscore the Mocs 25-6 in the third quarter to open up an over 30-point lead. Chattanooga got no closer than 35 points in the final quarter of action as NC State secured its 11th win of the season.
For the sixth time this season, Elissa Cunane led the team in scoring with 17 points. The sophomore center was extremely efficient in her 24 minutes of action as she shot 8-of-11 (.727) from the field. Grace Hunter (14 points) and Jada Boyd (11 points) also scored in double figures.
NC State went 29-of-71 (.408) from the field during the outing. It marked the eighth time in 11 games this season that the Pack has shot 40 percent or better.
The Wolfpack dished out a season-high 22 assists on 29 made field goals, and the squad also took care of the ball with only 10 turnovers on the night. Kaila Ealey was just one assist off of her career high, as she passed out eight without turning the ball over.
Senior guard Aislinn Konig continued to make her climb on the career three-pointers list. She knocked down a pair of triples in the first half to move into sole possession of third place in program history with 236 made threes in 99 games played at NC State.
NC State shot a solid 47.6 percent (10-of-21) in the third quarter while limiting Chattanooga to 16.7 percent (2-of-12) in that same period. In addition to its 23-0 second-quarter run, the Wolfpack also took advantage of another 17 unanswered points that spanned the final 4:41 of the third quarter through the first 1:11 of the fourth quarter.
Bria Dial (12 points) was the only member of the Chattanooga squad to reach double figures, and Lakelyn Bouldin, the Mocs' leading scorer this season, followed with nine points.
NC State opens Atlantic Coast Conference play on the road on Sunday, Dec. 29 as it travels to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to take on Boston College. Tip-off from the Conte Forum is set for 12 p.m., and the contest will be televised nationally on the ACC Network.
