
#9 NC State Beats Boston College to Remain Perfect

Six Wolfpack players score 10+ points in the win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The ninth-ranked and unbeaten NC State women's basketball team (12-0, 1-0 ACC) kicked off conference play on Sunday afternoon by defeating Boston College 72-54 at the Conte Forum.
The victory made it four seasons in a row that NC State has opened ACC action with a win.
For the second time this season, the Wolfpack had six players score in double figures. Kai Crutchfield led a well-balanced attack with 14 points. Elissa Cunane followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Aislinn Konig tallied 11 points, with eight of those scored in a row in the third quarter, and Jada Boyd also finished with 11. Kayla Jones and Jakia Brown-Turner posted 10 points apiece to join in on the action.
Boston College entered the matchup averaging 80.8 points per game this season, but the Wolfpack managed to hold the Eagles nearly 27 points below that mark in Sunday's contest. As a team, NC State shot 26-of-57 (.456) while limiting Boston College to 23-of-66 (.348) from the field, which was also well below the Eagles' 45.8 average field goal percentage. Emma Guy (14 points) and Marnelle Garraud (11 points) led the way in scoring for Boston College.
The first quarter of the game was all Wolfpack. NC State shot an impressive 10-of-15 (.667) while holding Boston College to 5-of-19 (.263) in that same period. The Pack hit its first four attempts from the field on its way to scoring 26 points in the first quarter, its most in an opening period of a game this season.
NC State led by as many as 18 points on two occasions in the first half, but the Wolfpack then went without a field goal over the final 5:38 of the second quarter. The Eagles managed to take advantage of eight turnovers by the Pack in the second quarter and ended the period on a 12-2 run to narrow NC State's lead to eight (36-28) at the break.
Boston College would get as close as five (42-37) in the third quarter, but Konig hit a pair of unanswered threes and converted on a shot from underneath the basket to help NC State re-establish a double-digit lead with 3:07 remaining in period. The Eagles came no closer than nine points for the remainder of the game.
NC State returns home to open the 2020 calendar year against Virginia Tech on Thursday, Jan. 2. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and the Hokies is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be broadcast live on ACCNX.
