TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Patrick Bailey of the NC State baseball team was tabbed a Preseason Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, recently announced by the organization.
The mention comes after securing Third Team All-America honors as a sophomore and Freshman All-America honors in 2018 from the publication. He was recently named one of the top 50 prospects for the 2020 MLB Draft by MLB Pipeline.
Last season, the Greensboro, N.C. native started 60 games behind the plate, compiling a .288 clip with 68 hits, 17 doubles, 10 homers and a .513 slugging percentage. Defensively, he committed just five errors in 476 chances for a .989 fielding percentage and threw out 33 percent of base runners attempting to swipe a bag.
Thanks to a strong 2019 campaign, he was named a Buster Posey Award Semifinalist, awarded to the top collegiate catcher of the year, and spent the summer with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Additionally, he was an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region and First Team All-ACC selection.
Collegiate Baseball recently announced its preseason poll, and NC State checked in at No. 16. It marked the 18th consecutive year that the Wolfpack has either started or finished the season nationally ranked.
The Pack opens the 2020 season Feb. 14 against James Madison, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park.
2020 NC State baseball season tickets are SOLD OUT. Bojangles mini packs and single game tickets are now on sale to the public.
